I learned to china paint quite
by accident. I was living in Scotland. I was
painting in oil at this time. A friend from Bible study was a potter.
She had been on home leave to the USA and discovered china painting.
She organized a class with a teacher and asked me if I would
help the teacher. When I said I knew nothing about china painting she
just said, " come on and help us, you know about color and
stuff." I went, I helped and I was hooked. Several years
later we returned to the USA. We bought a house in Spring, Texas. One
day quite by accident, but I really believe by divine providence, I was
trying to buy china supplies in Houston when the lady told me a China
Painting Convention was going on right then. Armed with a hand drawn
map I found my way to the Convention. When I got into the
shopping hall, my oh my! I wanted to run around screaming, "I want it
all,". I had learned to paint European style with little brushes. After
buying nearly everything in the hall I made my way to the exhibit room.
There I met Alma Tipton, which is another story in itself. She invited
me to Big Thicket Porcelain Art Club. That was in 1982; the rest is
history. I belong to the Texas China Painting Teachers and I have a
custom order business painting tiles and bathroom sinks. I
also paint and wire wrap miniatures and old family portraits
for sale.
